We arrived at Narita airport at around 2.30pm local time and proceeded to buy tickets for taking a limousine bus to Shinjuku, the nearest station from our hotel. The bus ride took about an hour and traffic was pretty smooth.
Checked into Hotel Tateshina and heaved a sigh of relief. Not sure whats the reason the 1st cab driver didnt want to drive us to our hotel. He kept pointing to the direction, as if suggesting we walk there since it's so near. But I was determined to take a cab (after reading online feedback)) since it's pretty near and there wasnt any point in lugging 3 pieces of heavy luggage to find our way. The 2nd cab driver spoke a little bit of English and chatted with us a little.
After settling down, we decided to have a look around the neighborhood. We walked to Shinjuku station to familiarise ourselves with the route. Afterall, this will be the center of our orientation for the next few days. Afterwhich, we explored the area a little before deciding to have an early dinner.
We chanced upon this small restaurant which had pictures of soba, udon, curryrice etc. We went in and were ready to order after checking out the number of the meal that we were gonna order. But then, there werent any menu nor waiter waiting to serve us. Dear pulled me out of the restaurant and we found this vending machine outside. We realized we had to purchase our meal coupons 1st before going into the restaurant to enjoy our meal! Haha! So embarrassing! But it was really a new experience. Neither Singapore nor US has this practice. :)
After dinner, I suggested going to the observatory at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office to see the night view of Tokyo. No admission fees, height of 202m, and it was within walking distance in Shinjuku. (A much better deal than Tokyo Tower (250m) I thought) As we walked, we got a little lost and was offered help from a kind young man who spoke pretty good English! We managed to reach our destination after some trouble. :p
Went back to our hotel thereafter. Had an early night to prepare ourselves for a whole day of fun tomorrow. We're going to Disneyland!
